The snow is gone, temperatures are up, and we’re all praying it stays this way. Now that we can see our sidewalks, driveways, and patios again, you may notice some wear and tear took place. Cracks are there that weren’t present in the fall. Some of the surface has chipped away. The cement doesn’t have the vibrancy it once had.

The list goes on.

Winter certainly can take a toll on concrete, but you don’t have to let it win. Help your concrete conquer the winter blues with a few simple actions.

Power Wash It

After winter, a good power wash goes a long way. Your everyday garden hose won’t be enough to clean up the dirt that sinks into the cements surface. Buy, rent, or borrow a power washer to bring some life back to your concrete surfaces.

While you’re at it, you can use it on the side of your house as well, washing away all of the winter stains.

Concrete Repair and Resurfacing

If your concrete is particularly cracked or damaged, it’s a good idea to do some maintenance. For minor cracks and breaks, some simple concrete crack repair can likely take care of it.

In case of more severe damage, chipped surfaces, and major cracks, concrete resurfacing may be a better way to go.

Concrete resurfacing is great alternative to concrete replacement, covering your concrete in a fresh new layer that will leave it looking brand new. However, we don’t recommend trying it on your own, as concrete resurfacer is a special material that can be a bit tricky to use.

Concrete Sealant

Want some added protection for your concrete year round? Then you should consider concrete sealer. By itself, concrete is quite porous, allowing moisture to get in and cause all sorts of damage. Concrete sealer adds a layer of protection that not only helps your concrete last longer but improves appearance as well.

Concrete sealer is highly customizable, allowing you to achieve varying degrees of gloss, color, and even patterns.  If you want it to look like traditional concrete, it can do that too.
